Getting Married
in Church

 "If you choose to get married in church, there is an added dimension - the assurance that God cares about your relationship and that His resources and strength are available to help you. Including God in your marriage doesn't mean that you will avoid all the usual ups and downs, but you will know that you can look to God for help and guidance and that His love will sustain you. You will also have the support of the Christian Church family."
Your Marriage in the Church of England

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We are not suggesting you have to do this on your wedding day .... but after all it is
YOUR BIG DAY!!!
Want to get married with us? ... Fantastic!!!
Booking a wedding ceremony in one of the churches of The Harlaxton Group of Parishes is much easier, simply contact our Vicar who, along with the weddings team, will do his best to ensure you have your perfect day.
We look for ways to say YES to your marriage request.
Lots of people marry in their own local church, but we know that you might like to marry in a church away from where you live because it has special significance for you through family or other connections.
An engaged couple can now do just that if either of you can show just one of the seven connections with the parish listed below
.
You can marry in a CofE church if you can show:-
That one of you:
  • has at any time lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months or
  • was baptised in the parish concerned or
  • was prepared for confirmation in the parish or
  • has at any time regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months or
That one of your parents, at any time after you were born:
  • has lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months or
  • has regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months or
That one of your parents or grandparents:
  • was married in the parish
In all cases involving church services - i.e. going to normal church services, baptism, confirmation or marriage - this applies only to Church of England services. Even if you cannot demonstrate any of the above connections, we want to help you explore whether it may still be possible for you to marry in your special church.
Please make an appointment for a chat over a cup of coffee with our Vicar well in advance to discuss the options open to you.
Plus....
If you're marrying in a special church that's not where you live, your local church would still love to support you as you prepare for the wedding, and afterwards too. Our Vicar can point you in the right direction and make the introductions for you.
You can get ideas about planning your big day from The Church of England's Wedding Planner (see "Useful Links" below)
Re-Marriage of Divorcees
We believe that everyone deserves a second chance at a happy marriage. We are all human, we all make mistakes don't we? Life is sometimes tough on us and we do things that we regret but God's forgiveness is a gift freely given to all who are truly sorry.         If you and/or your new partner are divorced then we will always do our very best to help you with arrangements, and naturally certain legal aspects have to be met. If you are divorced and your previous partner is still living then please download our Vicar's guidelines before you make your enquiry. (Click Here)
If your previous partner has died since your divorce or at least two years has elapsed since your Decree Absolute was issued then please download and complete the document Marriage in Church after Divorce before you visit our Vicar to make arrangements. (Click Here to Download)
Civil Partnerships
At the moment Church of England ministers are not allowed to conduct same sex marriages or Civil Partnerships. Please make arrangements with your local Marriage Registrars Office. Having told you that, we would love the opportunity to meet with you and chat with you about welcoming you to join us in our churches. Please do contact our Vicar.
